Dear friends, welcome to the Let's Kannada blog, a blog started with the intention of teaching people to speak Kannada. As they would say in Kannada:
"Namaskara! Let's Kannada blog ge nimagellarige aathmeeya swaagatha" (=Hello! A warm welcome to all of you to the Let's Kannada blog)
Kannada is a Dravidian language, spoken by the people of Karnataka and the people who speak Kannada are called Kannadigas. Bangalore is the capital of Karnataka.
Kannada has many dialects. People of different regions in Karnataka speak different versions or dialects of Kannada. In this blog, I will stick mostly to the dialect spoken in Bangalore.
Let us now start with the basics. The language is called Kannada and not Kannad -- the last "a" sound is important. Most Kannadigas cringe when they hear the word Kannad.
So come let us learn to speak Kannada. Let us go from "Kannada Gothilla" to "Kannada gothu"
Quick Recap of new Kannada words that we learnt today:
Namasakara = Hello! or any such form of greeting
ge= to, for
For example,
Blog ge = to the blog
Nimagellarige = to all of you
aathmeeya = warm in the context of above sentence, it can also mean dear or someone close to ones heart. For example, Aathmeeya geleya = Dear friend or a close friend
Swaagatha = welcome
Gothilla=Do not know or I do not know
Gothu=Know or I know
Thanks for reading today's post. Dhanyavaadagalu!
